My Fitness Journey!

“Good health is a crown on the head of a well person that only a sick person can see.”

Today while I was working out, I remember some time back while I was doing my lunges and kick boxes, someone came up to me in the gym and asked- “How do you do it.. I’m new to this gym thing!”…Although we are all quarantined basically these days in our own home gyms and what not…when someone genuinely ask, I do not hesitate to reply so I ended up showing ‘what’ and ‘how’ part of it and we ended up enjoying working out together. By all means we all have different journeys and goals and every body is different and we are not going to turn into Sharapova from a few pushups :)

Surprisingly, overtime I realized working out is just one part of fitness. Here is what I learnt in my overall fitness journey so far..

1. WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE IT - JUST DO IT!

Here’s the thing, I wonder if there would be a magic pill that would get us motivated and disciplined, but that doesn’t exist, and that’s why training is a bigger challenge than we think. At the end of the day, when we don’t feel like it, that’s the time when we most likely need it. It is all about awareness and questioning yourself how badly you want it and especially ‘why’ you want it. I never had a huge problem with discipline when I put my mind to something, I don’t like to give up.. I workout 6 days in a week even when I don’t feel like it.

2. EAT FIT

Someone on social media posted me the other day how could I eat dessert and still stay slim. I do not have a sweet tooth, however I still crave for something sweet some times. The thing is I don’t avoid my craving to get more craving, instead I eat in moderation; I can still eat 2 scoops and be satisfied. I try to eat lot of veggies and at least one serving of fruits every single day. I feel, when I workout I tend to eat more healthy. Over years my diet has changed and on an upward healthy graph. Eat fit to stay fit. Period.

3. WEAR-GEAR

In the beginning I won’t deny, wearing cute clothes for the workout was a big motivating factor. However over the past year, I’m leaning towards what I ‘need’ to wear to the gym ( I still like cute workout clothes though :)). For tops I really like graphic tees with motivational quotes that are super comfy like these, for pants I like something with mesh panel like such, found here.

4. VARIETY IS THE SPICE!

Diversify your workout with a variety of activities like Aerobics, Running, Dancing, Strength training, Yoga, Balance training etc. I’ve realized when the workout starts making us feel comfortable it is time to mix and match with other activities. As when we perform the same type of exercise repeatedly, our body adapt to that workout and becomes easy over time. I do Cardio and some days Yoga to maintain this level. Adding variety would sure challenge us to enjoy benefits that a diverse routine provides.

Take care of your health; Physically and Mentally and everything will take care of itself…Robin Sharma has quoted this so beautifully -
”You can’t be great if you don’t feel great, make exceptional Health your - #1 priority!”
